We need to know about your project Pioneer10...Can you give us the cool cliff notes?
On March 3rd, 1972, NASA launched Pioneer 10 into space to study our solar system and beyond. Aboard the spacecraft was the Pioneer Plaque, one of the most ambitious pieces of communication ever conceived, serving as a “galactic greeting card”—should any extraterrestrial life come across it. In May of 2017, I launched a Kickstarter to replicate the Pioneer Plaque that was successfully funded in just 30 hours!
What have been your favorite projects partnering with We Are Party Animal?
Without a doubt, partnering with We Are Party Animal on a design conference called Point Oh was my favorite collaboration. Connie was not only the glue that kept the project moving forward like a well-oiled machine, but she was also a visionary contributor to the overall atmosphere of the event. From cultural partnerships to organizational prowess, her involvement was instrumental in it's realization. She made it feel magical—and with grace and ease!
If we were to put on your headphones, what would we hear?
Currently, I’m listening to Virgil Abloh’s “Insert Complicated Title Here” discussion at Harvard. But Shigeto and Flying Lotus are queued up in Spotify...
What’s the best thing happening in Portland right now?
A maturation of the design scene. While Portland has always been an influencer, it’s great to see the city continue to grow as a national leader in the industry. Portland is a magnet for talented people who continue to relocate and contribute to the ever-evolving scene.
Tell us what your off time looks like…
The separation between work and play is a blurry one for me. I love doing what I do and I seek to do what I love. But in my down time, you’ll likely find me outdoors—whether at Washington Park doing target practice with my bows and arrows or wandering a trail near Mt. Hood, being outside makes me happiest.
What are you bringing to the party?
Storytelling. Stories are everything, and everything is stories.
What life components most influence your work?
Wonder. Wonder is the greatest of human traits and the fuel for our greatest achievements. It unites cultures and disciplines—from art to science to religion, no matter how disparate or dissimilar. Wonder moves us forward, together.
